Taizo Kuroda
Profile
Born in 1946 (S21), Kuroda began his ceaseless pursuit of distinctive expression in 1967when he began studying ceramics in Canada. He continued to explore upon returning to Japan in 1981, seeking guidance from master ceramicists. In 1991, he built a kiln in Ito City and around this time started to take on and develop his distinctive white porcelains. He has since been producing pristine works that meet the aims of his unique method of self-expression.
Kuroda’s works are characterized by their refined form, subtle contortions, immaculate porcelain surfaces, plainly manifested Eastern sensitivity, and discipline, all elements which overlap with his pure pursuit of universal beauty. Each of his works is a miniature universe that contains the moment of truth when Kuroda faced the wheel.
