Announcing a new solo exhibition featuring over 80 varieties of Takashi Murakami posters, beginning with items made in 2001 at Kaikai Kiki’s predecessor, The Hiropon Factory, and continuing to the present day.

Entitled “My First Art” series, the show will offer guests the chance to purchase high quality art at a low price – complete even with the artist’s signature. As the name implies, these works are perfect for your first ever art purchase. The project was, in fact, envisioned as a way to help people get their hands on editioned items that possessed the quality and special feel of an original work. The exhibition also showcases the unending thirst for printing quality that grew with each series and the astonishingly cutting-edge technology of Japan’s printing community. It would be no exaggeration to say that these posters exhibit some of the highest quality printing in the world. Differing even from silk screen or wood block prints, this set of artworks has blazed a new path in art history, and carved out a genre with a value all its own.

About the Posters

All posters featured in “My First Art” series are signed and editioned.

To give you an example of what amazing things are in store: a special technology known as “foil printing” was used to make the poster “AND THEN Golden DOB,” (featuring DOB, Murakami’s most famous artistic motif).The result is a texture so perfectly rendered that it looks almost as if it was printed on the surface of a mirror.

What’s more: the posters for Murakami’s “Daruma” series, a group of works which debuted to great controversy and acclaim at New York’s Gagosian Gallery in the Spring of 2008, feature a level of perfection that goes beyond the previously acknowledged limits of printing technology. Beginning with valuable works from the initial production period, the exhibition will cover a wide range, all the way to the brand new Daruma series. While the gallery will feature only a display, sale of the posters will be conducted through a special website set up during the course of the exhibit.
