Kaikai Kiki Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition by Zoer & Velvet on Friday August 7.

After several years of launching the careers of young artists, the art fair GEISAI has recently shifted into a new project, GEISAI∞infinity, in which creative artists are selected free of context to exhibit at Kaikai Kiki’s Zingaro Galleries in Nakano Broadway. French Graffiti artists Zoer and Velvet took part in the third installment of this new series with their exhibition “L’ETAT LIMITE”, challenging themselves to produce a show consisting entirely of works in oil on canvas. In support of their continued efforts to push their creative evolution, we have this time invited the pair to create massive paintings on canvas, hung to cover three entire walls of our Motoazabu gallery. Realized over a month long stay in Japan, these will the largest works we have shown at the gallery since our opening.

The title of this new exhibition is “BLAS,” derived from the word blasphemy and touching upon the complex combination of factors which exist today in the world, specifically the spiritual isolation of immigrants and refugees who find themselves separated from members of their religion and the way rapidly advancing technology has resulted in the abstraction of events and problems on our planet as mere bits of information, competing amongst each other on a level playing field regardless of severity. To reflect on the challenges presented by this situation, Zoer & Velvet have imagined the state of the present world in the aftermath of a post-apocalyptic event and have painted the results on canvas.

We hope you will come to experience this tapestry of scenes from an alternate world.
